Part of laying a strong foundation for the future of your children is equipping them with the proper life skills and education. This often requires parents to look ahead to what the future job market might hold. When studying the current market, one trend takes center stage: artificial intelligence (AI).

AI Is Unavoidable
AI isn’t going anywhere. It’s now intertwined into most aspects of daily life, from predictive text on your iPhone to automated tasks in the business realm. AI experts say that 79% of individuals in the U.S. interact with AI every day. In some cases, individuals don’t even realize that they are using AI tools.
Growing usage means the landscape and necessity of AI learning is also changing. While learning basic technology tools, like Microsoft Excel or code, are still important, most children already have a baseline knowledge. Instead, core AI skills need to expand to teach children about how to safely interact with AI, how to ask the right questions, and how to use it to solve complex problems.
AI Will Create New Jobs
AI’s use in the job market is twofold. On one end, 92 million jobs may be eliminated by 2030 due to AI. On the other end, AI tools, like genAI, are influencing and reshaping jobs. Studies show that AI is expected to add 170 million new roles, resulting in a net gain of 78 million jobs. A few categories of jobs AI will create include:
AI Development – Engineers, architects, and integration experts
AI Training – Prompt engineers, data annotators, and personality designers
AI Governance and Compliance – Ethics and compliance officers
AI Consulting – Domain-specific experts, creative directors, adoption strategists
While some of these roles are already in full swing, the development of AI will continue to add new positions.
Preparing for the Future
Traditional schools are falling behind on AI education. The earlier children learn to navigate AI, the better prepared they will be to lead the way in the new wave of AI careers. Additionally, introducing AI in a safe and controlled environment can give your children the ability to understand fundamental issues, like bias and data privacy concerns.
While it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what the future job market will look like, there’s no doubt that AI will play a paramount role. Taking the initiative and working AI into your children’s education will prepare them for careers that don’t even exist yet.
