Top schools in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh: an expat parent's orientation

Abu Dhabi and Riyadh have become serious education markets — and expat parents are navigating them for the first time. Here's the orientation.

Abu Dhabi shortlist

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi. Prestigious British, beautiful Saadiyat campus. Academically ambitious.
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi. British, co-ed, strong arts and sports balance.
  • British School Al Khubairat (BSAK). Not-for-profit, long community roots. Waitlist is the main hurdle.
  • American Community School Abu Dhabi. Oldest American school in the UAE; limited admissions to diplomatic/business families.

Riyadh shortlist

  • Multinational School Riyadh / British International School Riyadh. Established expat options; British curriculum; limited seats.
  • King Faisal School. Selective national school with strong international reputation.
  • Manarat Riyadh Schools. Major local system, expanding international programs.
  • King's Academy (near Amman). Worth mentioning for Saudi families — boarding option, strong pipeline to top universities.

The Riyadh-specific thing to watch

Curriculum reform is ongoing under Vision 2030. Schools that adapted early — stronger English, richer STEM — are pulling ahead of those that didn't. Ask specifically what has changed in the last 24 months.
